Hi, I’m Kate, I bake, I’m a Bread Lady.

Welcome to my world of food and thoughts and creative downloads.

My journey has twisted me down a unique path within the food industry.  I attribute this to being a woman, a mother, an independent, a creative.  I find food in connections with family, friends, community and strangers alike.  I find stories and laughter, the absurd and the beautiful.  Food has not failed in keeping me inquisitive, creative and forever forging ahead.  

I started Kate’s Bread, my small Ojai baking business, in 2014.  I focused on old artisanal sourdough bread baking but it soon expanded to croissants, pastries, Sunday pizzas and large holiday bakes.  Since opening, it has been a whirlwind of work, food and people.  Kate’s Bread was a surprising success and opened a door to the beautiful community I live in as well as a fascinating and talented community of bakers all over the world.  

I closed my small bakeshop in 2021 to parlay my baking into a larger brick and mortar operation in town, in collaboration with a larger restaurant group from Los Angeles.  My time at The Dutchess was short lived as the project did not resonate with me and my passions for small community and joyful baking so I parted ways in July 2022.  

I am now continuing my journey as Kate’s Bread, piecing together my vision of how I see the world of food.  I am forever exploring what food means to me and how bread is such a vital part of our world old and new.  I am hoping to bake some more, make pizza and feed you however I can, but I am also hoping you will enjoy my journey with me through my stories, adventures and my ever curious search for food as a medium for connections and tales to be told.
